How to send to Person Accounts

Currently it's possible to send invites to Person Accounts leveraging Salesforce's Workflow feature. In the example below the workflow is being triggered off of the object Account. You'll need to first create a custom email field within the object Account because the email field in the record type Person Account is not available as a recipient in the Email Alert feature. You'll also need to customize an email template which will be used in the Email Alert action you'll create.

Step 1: Create custom email field in the object Account

1. Go to Customize > Accounts > Fields and then to the 'Custom Fields & Relationships' and click 'New'

2. Select Email Data type and click 'Next'

3. Insert a Field Name and click 'Next'

4. Select the Field-Level security you want for the profiles

5. Select the page layout and click 'Save'

Step 2: Create the email template

1. Go to Communication Templates email templates and click 'New Template'

2. Select Custom and click 'Next'

3. Select a name for the template, check the 'Available For Use' checkbox and click next

4. Put the link you created in the email body and click next with the additional parameters: 

- <a href="http://YourExternalSite.force.com/timbasurveys__survey?id=YourSurveyIdGoesHere&pAccId={!Account.Id}&wf=yes">Name of the Survey</a>

5. Put the link again in the text version and click save

Step 3: Create a workflow and Email Alert

1. Go to workflow rules and click 'New Rule'

2. Select the Account object and click next

3. Complete the steps below and click 'Save & Next'

4. Click on 'Add Workflow Action' and then on 'New Email Alert'

5. Follow the steps bellow and click 'Save'

6. Click Done

In this example, the surveys are sent when the Person Account Rating equals cold, but you can use the criteria you want.
